Persecution of the Uyghurs

The Uyghurs have largely slipped from the global news headlines.

The Trump circus and the war in Gaza have largely drained all the international coverage.

Despite this fact the Uyghurs continue to suffer under Chinese rule.

Human rights abuses abound while the group, native to Xinjiang in eastern China, continue to be persecuted for their religion.

Mosques have been forced to remove their domes and the Islamic faith is held in suspicion.

The Chinese Communist Party has developed software to detect if a person is a Uyghur.

Despite all this the United States and other Western countries maintain economic and diplomatic relations with China.

Not that the Muslim world has covered itself in glory either.

Most Muslim states have largely bowed to China’s increasing economic might and abandoned the Uyghurs.

This is an issue that should not be so easily forgotten.
